Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Software development process modeling is gaining increasing interest among academic researchers and IT-industry practitioners alike as an approach for analyzing complex business questions of software production from the strategic management of software development, to supporting process improvements. A number of simulation models of software dynamics have been developed based on system dynamic approach with the use of special simulation programming tools. At the same time analytical software development modeling are of great interest as a tool of process optimization and control. In this paper the software development processes model based on the state machine and queuing network approach is proposed. The goal is the software development process dynamics modeling t hat is the evaluation of software product readiness progress in the course of time. Software product is considered as a set of system requirements, and software development process is represented as consecutive transition of each system requirement through the states of the defined state machine. The state machine model is a queuing network with service nodes which correspond to a number of implementers of system requirements on each stage of the development. Implementers are business analytics, architectures, developers, testers, etc. In general, the state machine is defined according to the used software development methodology. The markovian processes theory is further used for the queuing network modeling and quality indexes estimation. The proposed model can be used as a basis for modeling the dynamics of a software project development to get estimations of the following project parameters: effort, duration, cost, resources usage, development schedule, etc.

Abstract: The main aim of the research which partial results are presented in this paper is to develop full-blown reference model for creating simulation experiments supporting management of Extended Enterprises. Such framework can be used by modeler who would like to ask questions related to modeled business architecture in the context of managing part of the enterprise (e.g. supply chain) or the whole structure of Extended Enterprise. These questions may be answered with the use of computational analysis conducted with simulation model prepared according to proposed framework and simulation experiment process. The analysis may consider existing organization or the structure that is virtually designed and will be implemented after all characteristics are tuned. In order to facilitate the modeling process and reduce semantic gap between business architecture and model developed, agent orientation has been adopted as a modeling paradigm. Finally, the case study showing how the reference model may be used for analyzing the bullwhip effect in supply chain has been elaborated, and simulation experiment’s results visualized and interpreted.

Abstract: Computational intelligence paradigm covers several approaches for technical problems solving in an intelligence manner, such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic systems, evolutionary computation, etc. Each approach provides engineers and researchers with the smart and powerful tools to handle various real-life concerns. Even more powerful tools were designed at the joint of different computational intelligence approaches. Neuro-fuzzy systems, for example, are well-known and advanced intelligent tool that combines capabilities of neural networks and fuzzy systems together in a synergetic way. Among them, one of the prominent hybrid systems type is self-learning fuzzy spiking neural networks. They were evolved from fuzzy logic systems and selflearning spiking neural networks, and revealed considerable computational capabilities. There were proposed several architectures of self-learning fuzzy spiking neural networks, each handling a particular kind of data processing tasks (processing fuzzy data, fuzzy probabilistic and possibilistic clustering, batch and adaptive methods, new clusters detection, irregular form clusters detection, etc). In this paper, known architectures of self-learning hybrid systems based on spiking neural network are reviewed, compared, and summarized. A generalized architecture and learning algorithm for self-learning fuzzy spiking neural networks are proposed.

Abstract: The economic and social values of breast cancer diagnosis are very high. This study explores the predictive abilities of Fuzzy ARTMAP neural networks for breast cancer diagnosis. The data used is a combination of 39 mammographic, sonographic, and other descriptors, which is novel for the field. By using feature selection techniques we propose a subset of 21 descriptors that outperform the full feature set and outperforms the prediction model based on the most popular MLP neural networks. We also explored the model performance by ROC analysis and used metrics, such as max accuracy, area under the ROC curve, and area under the convex hull. Due to lack of specificity, many diagnosis tools entail unnecessary surgical biopsies, which motivated us to explore the clinically relevant metrics partial area under the ROC curve where sensitivity is above 90% and specificity at 98% sensitivity. In conclusion we find that the Fuzzy ARTMAP neural network is a promising prediction tool for breast cancer diagnosis. To the best of our knowledge, the Fuzzy ARTMAP neural networks have not been studied in that area until now.

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: This study models a transcutaneous energy transmission system which can supply DC power to an implanted device without an external battery. The goals of the study are to: (1) develop a model to describe the transcutaneous energy transmission system; and (2) use the developed model to design a transcutaneous energy transmission system for an implantable gastrointestinal neurostimulator. The complete trancutaneous energy system includes a power amplifier, a highly inductive coupling structure, and an ac-to-dc rectifying circuit in the receiver. Power amplification is based on the single-ended class E amplifier concept. The power amplification stage is self-oscillating, and the oscillation frequency is influenced by the coupling of the coils. The highly inductive coupling structure employs the stage tuning concept. Design methods and detailed analysis are provided. The proposed model is verified through the implementation of the design.

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: As one of the most successful applications of image analysis and understanding, face recognition has recently gained significant attention. Over the last ten years or so, it has become a popular area of research in computer vision and one of the most successful applications of image analysis and understanding. A facial recognition system is a computer application for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. One of the ways to do this is by comparing selected facial features from the image and a facial database. Biometric face recognition, otherwise known as Automatic Face Recognition (AFR), is a particularly attractive biometric approach, since it focuses on the same identifier that humans use primarily to distinguish one person from another: their “faces”. One of its main goals is the understanding of the complex human visual system and the knowledge of how humans represent faces in order to discriminate different identities with high accuracy. Human face and facial feature detection have attracted a lot of attention because of their wide applications, such as face recognition, face image database management and human-computer interaction. So it is of interest to develop a fast and robust algorithm to detect the human face and facial features. This paper describes a visual object detection framework that is capable of processing images extremely rapidly while achieving high detection rates.

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: One of the main problems in the statistical analysis of Evolutionary Computation (EC) experiments is the ‘statistical personality’ of data. A main feature of EC algorithms is the sampling of solutions from one generation to the next. Sampling is based on Holland’s schema theory, having a greater probability to be chosen those solutions with best-fitness (or evaluation) values. In consequence, simulation experiments result in biased samples with non-normal, highly skewed, and asymmetric distributions. Furthermore, the main problem arises with the noncompliance of one of the main premises of the central limit theorem, invalidating the statistical analysis based on the average fitness of the solutions. In this paper, we address a tutorial or ‘How-to’ explaining the basics of the statistical analysis of data in EC. The use of nonparametric tests for comparing two or more medians combined with Exploratory Data Analysis is a good option, bearing in mind that we are only considering two experimental situations that are common in EC practitioners: (i) the performance evaluation of an algorithm and (ii) the multiple experiments comparison. The different approaches are illustrated with different examples (see http://bioinformatica.net/tests/survey.html) selected from Evolutionary Computation and the related field of Artificial Life.

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: In education it is very important for both users and teachers to know how much the student has learned. To accomplish this task, GRAPHs (the eMathTeacher-compliant tool that will be used to simulate Dijkstra’s algorithm) generates an interaction log that will be used to assess the student’s learning outcomes. This poses an additional problem: the assessment of the interactions between the user and the machine is a time-consuming and tiresome task, as it involves processing a lot of data. Additionally, one of the most useful features for a learner is the immediacy provided by an automatic assessment. On the other hand, a sound assessment of learning cannot be confined to merely counting the errors; it should also take into account their type. In this sense, fuzzy reasoning offers a simple and versatile tool for simulating the expert teacher’s knowledge. This paper presents the design and implementation of three fuzzy inference systems (FIS) based on Mamdani’s method for automatically assessing Dijkstra’s algorithm learning by processing the interaction log provided by GRAPHs.

Above the regular means of ranking of objects and properties, which also use the structure of learning set, the logic separation hypotheses is treated over the multi value features area, which structures the learning set and tries to recover more valuable relations for better recognition. Algorithmically the model is equivalent to constructing the reduced disjunctive normal form of Boolean functions. The multi valued case which is considered is as harder as the binary case but it uses approximately the same structures.
