Abstract: This paper describes the rationale and partial results of an ongoing experiment aiming to perform analysis and visualization of social and organizational structure of Polish scientific community. Work described in this paper concerns automated extraction of information (related to DSc theses) from Internet based sources and visualization of resulting data set. Primary database that was mined was a scientific information repository “Polish Science (“Nauka Polska” in Polish) maintained by the Information Processing Centre (OPI – “Ośrodek Przetwarzania Informacji” in Polish). The nature of this repository, specifically lack of any data export facility and web scrapping prevention provisions implemented (despite the fact, that database is supported by public funds), complicated data extraction process. However, when finally downloaded, verified and processed the data set proved to be very interesting and valuable, making possible statistical analysis and geospatial visualization. Specifically, this paper describes creation of a software tool able to create geographical maps depicting collaboration between various research institutions in Poland during the process of DSc theses review. It should be regarded as a report on a work in progress. It is a part of larger SYNAT project, being a government funded initiative to create an ICT infrastructure supporting scientific collaboration and exchange of research data in Poland. The results presented herein constitute just a proof of concept for a visualization approach that will be implemented when more detailed data, concerning Polish scientific community, will be collected during other SYNAT activities.

Abstract: In the field of computer science, topics regarding analysis of social networks grows more and more popular. It stems from the fact that the knowledge hidden in connections between people might enable us to answer many questions concerning various areas of life. When analyzing social networks, we are usually interested in such information as – network structure, how it is managed and what is the scheme of flow of goods or information. When starting a study of processes taking place in social networks it can be noticed that a lot of data subject to analysis is stored in structures of databases. Thus, database server’s capabilities in terms of social network examining and assigning roles to its members are worth analysing. The aim of this paper is to present studies regarding using a database serve to gather data on social networks and mechanisms it provides to specify the type of connections between network elements. One of the tasks of social network analysis is a graphic visualization of connections between various objects existing in the field of interest of a conducted research. The most convenient representation of such is a graph. Ensuring a possibility to gather data for a permanent storage and at the same time effectively operate on them required designing appropriate data structures. It was decided, that the relational database meets the demands. The basic structure of the proposed data model covers vital graph elements along with a description of their qualities. Analysis of social networks presented as graphs poses a challenge when it consists of a huge number of nodes and connections between them. One of the most important functions for presenting a social network is to make it possible to locate and visualize only fragments of the whole graph in order to make analyses more effective. In the research, the mechanism for limiting set of nodes (creating sub-graphs, called paths for the purpose of this research) and for aggregating elements of a graph were prepared. Moreover, problem of graph search was also taken into consideration. The two algorithms, BFS and Dijkstra's, were implemented as a database procedures. Effectiveness of the operation of the first of algorithms was compared with its implementation in the. NET environment as well.

Abstract: European Union gives priority to social policy, labor and employment, human resource development. The growing unemployment figures in most of European Union countries provide the need to overview possibilities to strengthen control and more efficiently regulate unemployment. Recently, active labor market policies (ALMP) are increasingly applied to the broader macro-economic, employment and social policy objectives. Active labor market policy measures include vocational training, employment promotion, direct job creation, business support for new entrepreneurs. Investing in ALMP measures is one of the most effective investments in labor market policy. Knowledge society and knowledge economy challenges change management models. Knowledge management could help to increase productiveness of employees, expanding sources of reachable for them knowledge. Human resource development and effective human resource management theory of mobility models for the coordination and efficiency of their practical application depends on the ability of organizations to integrate human resource management and knowledge management models. ALMP measures are directly linked to the learning process, innovation, ideas and competencies. Active labor market supports the management of individual or group learning. Research indicates that vocational training is closely linked to job skills and employment promotion subsidies. The principles of knowledge management (knowledge construction, knowledge embodiment, knowledge dissemination and use) disposed of the active labor market system. It can be argued that the only successful model of knowledge management can ensure the success of ALMP. Abstract: - An approach for the problem of building such tools of e-learning system that gives the user a chance to get the desired knowledge of teaching course in a user adaptable manner is suggested in this article. This approach is based on so-called “teaching scenarios” (sequence of teaching units) being constructed during the process of learning. We introduce a tool that builds user adaptable teaching scenarios based on Genetic Algorithms, built-in the Genetic Chooser Algorithm (GCA). These scenarios are being constructed via the quality and quantity characteristics of the teaching units and user’s knowledge. A course-map building tool is also introduced in GCA that helps user to see his /her progress through the course. The considered method is realized and introduced in the TeachArm? e-learning system S.G. Sargsyan, A.S. Hovakimyan, and all, 2002

Abstract: Perhaps the most efficient of modern didactic policies is e-learning course. E-education shapes the culture of life-long learning and teaching and enables contemporary learners to meet the requirements of the outward reality. Learning is a daunting and time-consuming task. Its final success depends on many factors, so it’s crucial to choose the proper enhancing software, able to adapt the teaching process to an individual learner and able to verify and assess his improvement in learning. According to the Ebbinghausen forgetting curves, reasonably frequent revisions give student both the knowledge and methods of its consolidation: as a result he learns more efficiently. Hence, the salient part of our e-learning system is the neural network able to establish the best possible timetable of revisions. The e-learning system we provide pertains to the knowledge of the Polish orthography. By means of it we have proved, that e-learning is didactically effective only if the educational software is interactive and flexible enough to adjust itself to the user’s needs, requirements and perceptional skills.

CLUSTERING IN THE SPACE OF INDEPENDENT COMPONENTS AS A TOOL FOR REVEALING ...

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: This paper introduces a new method for analyzing time-series of stock market indexes (Dow Jones, NASDAQ etc) in order to reveal the quantitative level of their interference. In literature, the interference between stock indexes is usually called ‘contagion’. Strictly, contagion – is transmission of shocks from one region to another. In order to prevent destructive effects of crisis it’s very important for the government to predict them. The proposed method consists of two steps: transformation of time series to the space of independent components and clustering in this space using the principle of stability. The contents of clusters just define companies, countries, and regions related by the effect of contagion. To complete the mentioned steps we use: the IcaLab? tool from MatLab? package to construct independent components, MajorClust? method and DEM index for clustering and testing its quality. MajorClust? and DEM were developed in Benno Stein research group. The results of experiments showed the essential advantage of the proposed method over the traditional approach based on formal relations in correlation matrix. Notably, we marked out the groups of market indexes, which were most likely connected via ‘contagion’. Such a conclusion was made using external data like geographical position, level of country development, macroeconomic rates, etc.

DEVELOPMENT OF A COMBINED SYSTEM FOR INPUT OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL IMAGES

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: A model of a mobile setup for shape reconstruction is presented. In this technique, the contouring is performed by laser scanning and image processing. The devices of this setup can be moved to examine occluded areas and small details. The algorithm of triangulation method computes the object dimensions from the deformation of a laser line and the camera position. This model improves the performance and the accuracy of the reconstruction system, because all steps of the contouring are performed by computer algorithms. In this manner, the errors of the physical measurements are not passed to the reconstruction system. This procedure represents a contribution to the methods of contouring based on laser scanning. To describe the accuracy, a root mean square of error is calculated with respect to a contact method. This technique has been tested with real objects. Also the new principle of the shaping the structured illumination suitable is considered for realization of pinpoint accuracy of the noncontact optical measuring systems for determination of the profile to surfaces greater object. Proposed method has no an analogue in Russia and overseas.

Abstract: Agent-oriented models (АОМ) are well-known and are widely used in imitational modeling of economic processes. АОМ allow researchers to take their multicomponent iterative nature into consideration and to avoid difficulties, which may stem from analytical task setting. The article suggests the use Gilboa-Schmeidler? agents, which а) have a limited rationality of decision-making process which accompanies resource exchanges; b) learn, while striking deals aimed at exchange of these resources. This is what makes them different from traditional АОМ, where learning and relearning is not taken into account. The peculiar feature of the agent interaction environment is the possibility of redistribution of a part of resources through the taxation of deals. The influence of institutions on deal successfulness is also taken into account.. The functioning of the suggested АОМ is demonstrated through the use of examples, which admit to simple economic interpretation.

Abstract: The existing, intuitive computation models, that is the virtual machines of Turing, Post, Kolmogorov, Schönhage, Aho-Ullman-Hopcroft? as well as the algorithms of Markov and Krinitski, and the recursive functions, all lack precise, mathematical formulation. Consequently, algebra of algorithms is defined using the axiomatic method. The algebra is based on the operations of sequencing, elimination, paralleling and reversing as well as cyclic sequencing, cyclic elimination and cyclic paralleling, all of them performed on the so-called uniterms. A useful extension is offered in terms of additional cycle elimination axiomats. A simple example illustrates the usefulness of the algebra of algorithms.

Abstract: This article represents a brief survey of the few works, dedicated to the modern approaches of natural language processing (NLP) to the analysis of impersonal sentences in Spanish. Such an analysis consists in classification of non-referential ellipsis that can be used in machine translation systems. The NLP approaches related with Spanish are mainly based on the work of Rello published in 2010. These approaches do not make use of a proper classification of impersonal models, but of a relative descriptive distribution without strict criteria. The structured classification presented in this article, based on historical and semantic data of interlingual nature, can be also applied for creation of linguistically-motivated classes for machine learning methods. The automatic classification method, employed in the work of Rello, is based on the use of the wellknown WEKA package instance-based learner.

LEXISTERM – THE PROGRAM FOR TERM SELECTION BY THE CRITERION OF SPECIFICITY

Rating: (1.00/10)

Abstract: Term selection is one of the principal procedures in natural language processing. Existing advanced methods allow to construct multiword terms, to form hierarchy of related terms, etc. It provides a high quality of problem solutions where these terms are used. But almost always an expert needs a simple tool to glance a document corpus to reveal the most distinctive features. For this purpose we propose the simple program LexisTerm? for one-word term selection based on a well-known criterion of term specificity. Speaking ‘specificity’ we mean the relation of term frequencies in a given document/corpus and in some gold standard as, for example, a National corpus of document. The program has two options, which give an opportunity. to select both specific terms in an individual document and specific terms for the whole corpus. In the paper we describe this program and demonstrate the results of its work on a real example. The program LexisTerm? is free-share.
